The world of AML has changed out of all recognition over the last decade. Old crimes are subject to new laws, professional firms and financial institutions are subject to criminal sanctions and regulatory review as never before. Yet the individual client has virtually no say over what various national governments and their competing departments are doing to their rights and liberties in their name. The Shadow of the Law?
The RIPA Act of 2000, as amended, continues to cast long dark shadows over freedom and British democracy. Shadows that the Metropolitan Police are more than happy to try and exploit, according to this article from the Guardian. (Are the Met Police seeking to hide public knowledge of how they conduct undercover investigations? )
